  Trafford MBC Teams sought for youth football tournament
Teams sought for youth football tournament

Local football teams and community groups are being given the chance to pull on their boots for a tournament that's taking place in August.

The event is being run by Trafford Council's Youth Offending Team and Youth Service in partnership with, Tuf*c and Trafford Community Leisure Trust as part of their commitment to creating positive activities for young people in Trafford.

The first tournament for the South of Trafford ran at the end of May with Fantastic 6 and Broomwood FC crowned champions of the South.

Now its North Trafford chance to take part, to see who can become champions of the North. Young people who live in areas of Urmston, Stretford, Old Trafford, Partington and Carrington are all invited to participate.

Teams should be made up of no more than nine players with a minimum of six.  It's taking place at the Old Trafford Sports Barn, just off Seymour Park on St Hildas Road, Old Trafford.

There are two age groups; one is for young people from school years 10 - 11 (from school year 08/09) who will be playing on Friday 7 August 3pm - 6pm and on Saturday 8 August between 2pm - 5pm young people from school years 8 - 9 (from school year 08/09) will have their chance to take part.

Awards will include trophies, a Junior Football Organisers course for the winning community group, leisure passes for the winning team and an opportunity to become champions of Trafford in the South v North final.

To play, each player will be expected to wear appropriate footwear, which has no studs or blades, and all players require shin pads. They will also be expected to be accompanied by at least one adult who will be responsible for the team throughout the tournament.
