Pay your Council Tax the easier way

The new Council Tax year starts in April and Trafford Council is encouraging residents to consider paying by Direct Debit.

Paying your Council Tax by Direct Debit is becoming increasingly popular with around two thirds of residents now paying by this easy method. This helps the Council reduce collection costs and therefore influences the level of tax charged.

There are benefits for residents who chose to pay by Direct Debit, which include:
*    You will no longer have to remember to post a cheque every month or go out to pay as monthly instalments will be paid automatically.

*    There is no risk of overlooking a payment, perhaps due to illness or being on holiday. Remember that being in arrears can cause you to lose the right to pay by instalments.

*    You will always be told of the amounts to be deducted from your account at least 10 working days before any payment is taken.

It is now even easier to set up a Direct Debit. All you need to do is either register on line at www.trafford.gov.uk/counciltax or call us on 0161 912 2220. Taking action now to set up a Direct Debit will ensure your new bill, issued in March 2010, will be automatically set up for payments to start from April.
