Find Out More About the Old Trafford Masterplan at Neighbourhood Forum

The next Old Trafford neighbourhood forum is going to be focused on the master plan that is being developed for the area.

Earlier this year Trafford Council, Trafford Housing Trust and Old Trafford Neighbourhood Management Board asked Manchester-based designers URBED to prepare a masterplan for Old Trafford.  The aim of the masterplan is to put in place a physical Framework for the area of Old Trafford which will help to improve the neighbourhood.  This will run along side plans by Trafford Housing Trust to bring all housing stock to a decent standard by 2010.

The purpose of the master plan is to put in place in place a framework which will help Old Trafford become the place where we love to live, grow, play and prosper by:

*    Improve links to the surrounding areas
*    Improve housing layouts
*    Improve public spaces to make them more attractive and safer
*    Promote community cohesion through access to employment, education and community services
*    Promote environmental and social sustainability
*    Promote the overall aim for Old Trafford to be the place where we love to live, grow, play and prosper.

Local residents have been working with Trafford Council, housing organisations, children and youth services, police, highways, environmental services, health care, leisure services, business and enterprise and employment services and have helped develop a vision and prioritise actions for the future improvements of Old Trafford.

Local residents have also been involved in Community Design Workshops and produced models made out of plasticine showing how their neighbourhood could be improved.  Residents have been sight seeing on a touring bus in mid July, visiting Salford and Manchester with the consultants to see examples of how other communities have brought about positive changes to their area.

Executive Councillor Mike Cornes said: "It is important local people get involved in plans like these and that the proposals reflect their input. I am delighted so many residents have already taken part in this process, and hope anyone who has not yet had the chance to influence the plans takes the opportunity to see them and comment at the exhibition in the Old Trafford Library from Friday 3rd to Saturday 18th October inclusive and at the neighbourhood forum."

There will be an opportunity at the Old Trafford Neighbourhood forum on 7 October to have a look at the plans and ask questions of the neighbourhood management team and the designers. The forum will take place from 6pm at the Old Trafford Community Centre. As well as this the plans will be on show at Old Trafford Library from 3 October until 18 October.
