New efficient equipment installed at libraries

New, easy-to-use equipment is starting to be installed in Trafford Council’s libraries to help people take out, return and renew their books at the touch of a button or two.

The technology will free up time for staff at all libraries to provide extra services and more information for customers.  This means people will be able to get information about council services, report issues and resolve their enquiries at the same time as using their library’s wide-ranging facilities.

It’s part of a wider council project, bringing together staff from libraries and the council’s Trafford Direct information service into a joined-up, value for money service called Access Trafford.

“We’re harnessing new technology to improve our customer services, giving people more opportunities to get the information they need,” said Executive Councillor Alex Williams.  “Unfortunately, this will involve some disruption as the machines are installed and staff are trained.  We hope people will bear with us.”

Each library in turn will be closed for a week while the equipment is being installed.  Customers will still be able to visit other nearby libraries and books will be on extended loan for the week.  Customers at each library are being informed about the arrangements.

In September, Sale Waterside will remain open for council enquiries: the library section of the building will not be available.

The installation timetable is:

Week beginning -
20 October - Urmston
27 October - Altrincham
