Have your say on transport plan

Local people and businesses are being invited to have their say as the council shapes a plan to improve Trafford's transport network and tackle congestion over the coming years.

The draft Trafford Transport Plan sets out the key challenges and issues to be addressed in the next 10-15 years and the associated priorities for investment.  It outlines proposals to provide efficient, high-quality and sustainable integrated transport network to serve the needs of local people and the business community.

Executive councillor Matt Colledge said: "We've made some progress in tackling the effects of traffic by introducing initiatives that will ease congestion, protect communities from excessive traffic, make our roads safer, especially for vulnerable road users, and protect the environment from the impact of traffic.  An example is Trafford Council’s £24m investment into roads and footpath maintenance over the next three years, which provides us with a real opportunity to target network improvements.

"However, we now face significant pressures on the transport system in Trafford – with overcrowding on Metrolink and trains, gaps in our local bus services and some roads struggling to cope with traffic volumes.”

The council will work in partnership with Government, Greater Manchester Authorities, GMPTE, transport operators, businesses and the community to implement the Trafford Transport Plan.

Information from interested parties is welcomed, and the council is particularly keen for people to consider potential growth and any emerging priorities that will influence Trafford’s transport network in the short to medium future.
