Community database at a click of a button

Everything from your local knitting club to charities, childcare nurseries to yoga classes in Trafford can now be found at a click of a button

A new online database listing hundreds of community groups has been launched at www.trafford.gov.uk/communitygroups.

Local groups can raise their profile and reach a wider audience by promoting their presence on the internet, through Trafford Council’s new online community database.  As well as providing key information about the group such as meeting times, venues and contact details the facility can be used to recruit volunteers, available 24 hours a day from any location with access to the internet.

The database contains searchable contact details and information about hundreds of non-profit making organisations, local community, voluntary and self help groups, clubs and societies and other resources throughout Trafford.

The information on the database, held and maintained by Access Trafford – the council’s information service, has been updated and made available to the public through the interactive website.

Users can create an account to add their own group or add or change the information on an existing group.  They can also search by listings, subject or key word.  The information is also available to council staff for customer enquiries.

Executive Councillor Alex Williams said:  “This is about making local community information more accessible and available to local people, whatever their age or interest, whether they are looking for a hockey club, a local knitting club, language classes, charities or list of venues.  We are using new technology to provide value for money and make information available 24/7.”

Visit www.trafford.gov.uk/communitygroups if you want to add your organisation to the database. If you don’t have your own internet you can access it for free at any Trafford library. Just ask a member of staff for details.

Organisations can register for free and submit details online at www.trafford.gov.uk/communitygroups.  For further information and help with the database email community.groups@trafford.gov.uk.
