Celebrating Trafford's parks and green spaces

Trafford’s premier parks, cemeteries, gardens and countryside sites have been celebrated again this year in the annual Greenspace Awards.

24 sites in total have received awards, with five gaining the prestigious gold award, and this year, De Quincey Park and Sale Water Park received Greenspace Awards for the first time.

Executive councillor Jonathan Coupe said: “Well done to all the local people, Friends groups and council staff who work hard to make Trafford’s parks and green spaces high quality places for people to enjoy. These awards are particularly important because it’s not just an solely an independent panel of judges who choose rate the award-winners - local people get to play a vital part through expressing their opinions, influencing which sites are celebrated.”

The awards take information from biannual independent maintenance inspections, a judge’s site inspection and feedback from the GreenSTAT online public opinion survey managed by GreenSpace; the national charity for parks and green spaces.

The scheme includes less obvious but equally important sites such as small community parks.

All this information taken together gives a balanced view of each site, allowing awards to be made. In addition, this process importantly highlights areas for improvement which helps us to improve the sites and further raise standards.
