Ofsted praise for Trafford's nursery and reception education

Local nursery and reception class children are receiving the best possible start to their education.  Of the 60 primary and infant schools inspected over the past three years, 28 (47 per cent) received an 'outstanding' judgement on their Foundation Stage education, with all but one of the remainder being judged as 'good'(the remaining school received a 'satisfactory' report).

The inspectors have found that there are good quality Foundation Stage curriculums in place, providing a balance between structured play and adult-led activities.

Many individual school reports identified excellent leadership and management of the Foundation Stage, with staff working hard to make learning exciting and relevant.  The results of these efforts are that children enjoy school, grow in confidence and make good progress.

Inspectors have commented in many school reports on the excellent communication with parents, which helps parents support their child's home learning.  Good record keeping and assessments also help schools identify the next steps in an individual child's learning.

Executive Councillor John Holden said it is good to see the quality of local Foundation Stage education being recognised.

"We are committed to providing the best possible educational opportunities for all pupils.  The recognition given by Ofsted in individual inspection reports to the high standard of Foundation Stage education provided is something everyone involved should be proud of.

"Making sure that a child's first educational experience in nursery and reception class is a positive one is something I'm sure teachers, school staff, governors and parents will continue to achieve.  By doing this we can make sure that children enter Year 1 enthusiastic, eager and ready to continue their learning experience," he said.
