'Keep it clean' says Kings Road Primary School

Schoolchildren and their teachers have been doing their bit to make Trafford a cleaner, greener borough by taking part in a national campaign.

Twenty two Year 5 and 6 pupils, with teachers, from Kings Road Primary School in Old Trafford, braved the weather on Wednesday 1 October to take part in The Big Tidy Up with the support of Emerge’s community liaison worker, Mark Hill and Trafford Council’s Cleaner Safer Greener team.

Litter pickers and bags were provided and Trafford Council removed around 20 bags of litter which had been collected during the hour long litter pick on roads surrounding the school. Many pupils litter picked their routes to school and couldn’t believe how many sweet wrappers and cigarette butts they found.

Executive Councillor Jonathan Coupe said, "It’s great that the pupils were so enthusiastic. Hopefully the litter pick will discourage people from dropping rubbish and take the anti-littering and recycling message home to their families."

If any other school or community group in Trafford would like to take part in The Big Tidy Up, a national clean up campaign run by Keep Britain Tidy, then please contact the council’s new environmental education officer, Kate Fuller, on 0161 912 5569.
