Christmas & Mosaic Unveiling Party
Friends of Victoria Park, Stretford
Saturday 5th December 12pm – 3pm
Stretford will be transformed into Lapland for a day next month when the festive season will kick into life with a Christmas & Mosaic Unveiling Party in Victoria Park, Stretford.
On December 5th the park will host a Christmas party to rival any of the German markets in Manchester’s town centre. On offer will be free hot food and drink, carol singing, market stalls and even Santa himself will be paying a visit to the delight of any children lucky enough to be there. For the grown ups, mulled wine will be available to help ward off any December chills.
Proceedings kick off at noon, and as part of the official mosaic opening there will be a brand new Welcoming Wall opened by Beverley Hughes MP. This mosaic was funded by a Grassroots grant and has been designed by local teenagers and built by the whole community. Then, visitors will be able to choose from a wide range of fun family activities, such as Christmas crafts, shopping for presents in the stalls, a raffle, carol singing and a visit to Santa. For just £3, children will be able to have their photo taken with Santa, which will then be presented to them and they will also receive a free photo key ring, and receive a free present from Father Christmas himself. The photo can also be emailed to the owner too.
The party is being organised by the Friends of Victoria Park, for whom this will be the finale to a year of extremely popular community events which have seen hundreds of people flock to what is one of Manchester’s finest parks to take part in activities ranging from summer sports to bulb planting to the recent Halloween Party.
By bringing Christmas to the doorstep of everyone in Streford, it is hoped the event will provide parents with an altogether more pleasant way of celebrating the festive season than fighting their way around the Trafford Centre or Manchester city centre in the December rush. It is also a great way for people to meet new friends in the area they live in, thus making Stretford an altogether friendlier place.
