IM QUITE AN INTIMIDATING GIRL

A month ago, no one knew of Victoria Hart, but a performance at the Cannes film festival in May, organised by George Clooney and Brad Pitt, soon changed that. The singing waitress, whose debut album Whatever Happened To Romance is released on Monday July 9, reveals why fashion is
more important than sleep.

Looking around Victoria Harts newly rented flat in Portobello Road, everything is tidy, with a feminine touch. Her sunglasses are lined up on the table, her vintage dresses are arranged according to colour, and her cosmetics are packed neatly away.

But this wasnt done by Victoria - it was, in fact, her stylists work.

I cant believe what my stylist has done with all of this. Hes tidied everything - hes incredible. This is an example of how my life has changed! she exclaims.

Theres even a walk-in wardrobe in the small flat.

Its actually the bedroom, but clothes come before sleep, right? laughs the 18-year-old, who sleeps on a sofabed in the living room.

Ive always been like that. When I was about 12 or 13, I started getting possessive about the way I looked and what I wore, and then when I was 16, I started an addiction to designer shoes, which is the death of me.

She now has 20 pairs of shoes on display - all of which are glam high heels.

Only the ones that I adore make the display. There are a pair of Office shoes on there and the rest are designers like Marc Jacobs and Chloe, she explains, straightening her red vintage floaty dress.

After signing a one-album record deal with Universal for £1.5 million, there was no mistaking what Victoria would splash out on first with her advance.

The first thing I bought were Roberto Cavalli shoes. They are golden, and beautiful. Theyre seven inches. I have good shoes. Its that obsession. They are my babies.

I like shoes, bags and clothes, but not jewellery so much, which is a good thing because its expensive! The advance I got from the record company is in a safe place. Its being dispensed to me in little bits. If it was left to me, Id go into a club and order Cristal just for fun, she adds.

People start getting excited about how Im going to spend my money, but Im happy now. Obviously itd be nice to have it sorted to buy a house or afford driving lessons and buy a car, but Im happy with what Ive got.

I have enough money to go out an awful lot and to buy a pair of shoes as well. Although, sometimes at the end of the month, its a tight squeeze!

Its been a whirlwind month and a rag-to-riches Cinderella story for music student Victoria, the singing waitress who was making just £6 an hour before being spotted and whisked to Cannes to perform for George Clooney and Brad Pitt. Since then, she has also performed at Glastonbury.

My life has gone upside-down, I cant believe it. Its mental really. Sunday is my first day off in a whole month. Im really having way too much fun, but I miss my friends. I dont get to see them a lot now. I
get to spend time with them once in a while at nights, but Im normally exhausted, she admits, twirling a strand of her blonde hair.

The hectic schedule means that the beautiful singer is currently single.

Boyfriends are definitely not on the agenda. Im actually glad I dont have one at the moment, because it would be the most hard work ever. Boys are whiny! she says, before breaking into a fit of giggles.

When Im on interviews, I get really flirtatious, for example, with Andrew Castle from GMTV who Im in love with. I can just imagine a boyfriend wouldnt be too impressed. So no boys. Music is my boyfriend.
Its actually quite depressing to say that, so I have to try and say it with pride.

Born in California, Victoria moved around when she was a child, living in Essex and finally settling in the south of France. Her parents now live in New York. Despite hating school, she moved to London to take singing lessons.

I came here to follow my dream, she says. I was just trying my luck really, but it was good training because I needed to learn about real life. Welcome to the real world. But I love it.

Her big break came when a prop buyer with film connections heard her sing in the restaurant and put her name forward for a party at Cannes. Two weeks later, she was mingling with the rich and famous.

Cannes was so amazing. It was such a glamorous event. They have canapes and drinks and really expensive dresses. I just had to go to the toilets and start screaming! shrieks the blonde bombshell.

At the beginning, I got starstruck, but theyre normal people, arent they? George Clooney and Brad Pitt are a different type of normal people - theyre like triple A-list celebs. Everyone in the world knows who they are.

Did they talk to her?

They told me I was doing a wonderful job singing, so I replied, Thank you, youre lovely, then they said, Youre lovely, and I shouted back, Youre lovely! Apart from that, nothing, she says, as an
onslaught of giggles return. How sad is that?

Along with her 40s-style vocals, Victoria also made an impression at the show with a show-stopping Moschino dress.

I wore a £1,200 Moschino dress. We were trying to blag some freebies but no one would give us anything. That dress has been everywhere, but I cant wear it anywhere now because everyone has seen it, she says, sighing.

I have worn it to Waitrose many a time, with flat shoes, so it doesnt look like an expensive dress that costs £1,200. Thats funny, because it is my most expensive dress, so I think it needs to get its wear. I
have to wear it 1,200 times.

Critics shouldnt dismiss the self-described Barbie of Jazz as a fad. Underneath the long blonde hair and curvy figure is a heart full of determination, wanting to be more than just a one-hit fashion accessory.

Im planning on a long career, she reveals. Ive already started writing for it. Im really hard-working so hopefully that will pay off. There is nothing like my music around at the moment, and I say that in
the nicest way possible.

Victoria may be 18 and can have anything she desires, but she doesnt have any extravagant needs.

I am independent, but I do need a mummy, in ways that you dont know, she says.

Its not like Im running around acting diva-ish or anything, but with something like this, I need people around me to yank me back down, so I dont get caught up in fame.
